Senior Thesis Collection 2023
Initially inspired by the various links between jazz, hip hop, and the subsequent cultures they inspire, for this collection I wanted to create something that celebrated music as a way of self-definition within black culture. The art of sampling became a big inspiration for my creative process, motivating me to take certain aspects of the albums and musicians I’m drawn to and reinterpret them into something new. Thinking about various distinctive qualities within the music industry: hard and soft, feminine and masculine, etc, my goal was to produce garments that reflected these juxtapositions. Every piece was either machine knit on a domestic double bed knitting machine or jacquard woven, all fully-fashioned.
